Praised by The Herald Times as a pianist who “strokes and strikes the keyboard pristinely and with elegance”, Taiwanese pianist Liang-yu Wang's concert career has taken her to Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. She has performed in major concert halls including Romanian Athenaeum (Bucharest), Flagey (Brussels), Fisher Center (NY), Banff Centre (Canada), National Concert Hall (Taiwan); as well as several unconventional performance venues such as the Woodbourne Correctional Facility, NY. Her performances are frequently broadcast on WFMT, PBS, Klara (Belgium), and the Violin Channel.
Ms. Wang is a sought-after chamber musician and collaborative pianist known for her intuitive musicality, deep listening, and vibrant stage presence. She has been featured as guest artist with notable chamber music organizations, including The First Song Series at the Morgan Library & Museum, Chicago Musicians Club of Women Concert Series, Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts, Lev Aronson Legacy Festival, Sonoran Chamber Music Series, Chamber Music on the Fox, Red Rocks Music Festival, Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival, Burlington Lunchtime Chamber Music Series, Resonant Bodies Festival at Banff Centre, and Downtown Chamber Series. Other festival appearances include Music Academy of the West, Banff Arts Centre, Schlern International Music Festival, and Académie Musicale Internationale “Barbara Krakauer”.
Ms.. Wang and cellist Thomas Landschoot released their debut CD “Balabille: Cello Sonatas by Debussy, Poulenc & Chopin” on ArchiMusic, which was nominated by the Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan as “The Best Classical Music Album”.
In addition to her expertise in classical chamber music repertoire, Ms. Wang is also an enthusiastic advocate of music by living composers. A central highlight of her career has been her close artistic partnership with renowned Belgian composer Frank Nuyts, who tailored his piano sonata No.19 (2015) specifically for her. Ms. Wang premiered this work in Paris during her artist residency at the Cité des Arts in the summer of 2016. Her collaboration with Nuyts has since expended into further performances with his groundbreaking ensemble Beat Love Oracle, a pioneering force in contemporary music known for its daring fusion of classical, jazz, rock, and experimental idioms. Their joint recording "Radical Risk" has garnered glowing reviews across Europe, praised for its bold artistic vision and genre-defying creativity. Performing and bringing Nuyt's innovative music to life has been a deeply meaningful and inspiring part of Ms. Wang's artistic journey.
Ms. Wang is currently a collaborative pianist at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, and has been a faculty artist at the Meadowmount School of Music since 2019, where she works closely with some of today's most promising young string players. Her festival has taken her to the Banff Centre Summer Programs "Masterclasses for Strings & Winds", and the Eastern Music Festival, where she's been part of vibrant music communities shaped by world-class performers and teachers. Earlier in her career, she served as Visiting Assistant Professor in Music (Collaborative Piano/Strings) at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, held a faculty position at Western Illinois University, and was a collaborative piano fellow at Bard College Conservatory - each role deepening her commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and artistry.
Ms. Wang received her D.M.A. and M.M. in Collaborative Piano from the Arizona State University. She holds a Diploma in Piano Performance from Indiana University-Bloomington, and a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Fu-Jen Catholic University (Taiwan).
